Whitefish has excellent direct air service only 11 miles from downtown. The low-key atmosphere makes life in this tight- knit community a happy and warm place to be. Whether in the village of Whitefish Mountain Resort or taking a stroll in downtown Whitefish, you'll find something suited to your tastes. Be a part of the Whitefish Art Community! No membership required, just drop in on the Stumptown Art Studio for "Open Clay Nights," bring out your inner child and have fun painting your own ready-made pottery, or let your kids' imagination go wild in a class just for them. Don't feel like getting your hands dirty? Take a walk down Central Avenue and view the many pieces of art on display. Along the sides of a few of the buildings downtown you'll find a collaborative art project from Whitefish 4th graders and long-time residents of Whitefish These are wonderful large paintings of local stories. Be sure to read as many as you can. They are a terrific piece of history! As you stroll along, don't miss the historic plaques on many of the old buildings from Whitefish's yesteryear. The history of many of these businesses and people who owned them are truly a town treasure. Hundreds of sculptures, craftsmen, photographers, painters, and the like, call Whitefish home. The many shops on mountain and in town are filled with their work. You'll also find antiques, knit shops, galleries, jewelery stores and other fine art establishments to suit your fancy! Still want more? Spend the night at the theater. Every year the O'Shaughnessy Center, near the train depot, is host to a variety of professional plays, musicals, concerts, film premiers and community activities. There's always something happening! We can't forget about the up and coming local music scene! Whitefish is teaming with talented musicians eager to entertain you! Whitefish Mountain Resort is only 31 miles from world famous Glacier National Park - known as the "Crown of the Continent". Travel the famous Going-to-the-Sun Road, a national historic landmark, by car, shuttle or a delightful narrated "jammer" red bus tour.
